Duke Cancer Center

Overview

For Duke Cancer Center,  AGA worked with the architects Duda Paine to develop the concept of a feature element that was intended to appear like a pool of water.  The circular glass form, composed of stacks of heavy plate glass bonded together, serves as the central element in the Reflection Room.  The top surface is cast with a texture like that of rippling water with small glass jewels laminated to the underside which create the appearance of drops of water on the surface.  The work is illuminated internally with LED lights which cast colors onto the ceiling of the space.  The design intent was to create a soothing element that relieved stress and encouraged reflection.
