Integration of expressive glass with architecture
Christ Church Cathedral, Cincinatti, OH
At the completion of the renovation of the cathedral, the architect asked Kenneth von Roenn to develop a solution for the area behind the altar, which was a blank wall. Von Roenn developed a work that is located behind the reredos wall of the altar in a corridor which is a glass wall relief sculpture, 12’ diameter, mounted to the wall, and which is composed of engraved and polished glass panels with dichroic glass fins laminated to the back side. Illuminating the glass are lights which are directed at the dichroic glass fins so that they cast and reflect colors onto the wall behind thus animating the glass with color.
